  • Fix show/hide button appearance and position on Windows 7/8.
  • Reduce number of decimal places in Drive Space meter when displaying in GB.

v2.8.3 (165) - August 1, 2013

New features:

  • FreeMeter Professional:
    • Windows NT 4 and Windows 2000 no longer supported (might work, not testing it).
    • Physical and Page file text meters drop support for kilobytes and add gigabytes.

    • Process meter now reads process information for processes not owned by current user.
    • Process meter now shows memory use above 2GB; however, anything over 4GB will be reported as only 4GB. I cannot figure out how to get memory use for apps that use more than 4GB. Anyone know how? GetProcessMemoryInfo() and GetProcessMemoryInfoEx() both only report up to 4GB.

v2.8.2 (161) - February 5, 2006 - CURRENT NON-PRO RELEASE

    • Statistic summary dialog did not support more than 2GB of memory.
    • LCD physical memory meters would update with page file space instead of physical memory space if a page file meter was open and was below the last physical memory meter or there was no physical memory meter open.

v2.7.7 (150) - September 3, 2003

New features:

  • FreeMeter & FreeMeter Professional:
    • Much improved non-English language operating system support. All languages should now be supported equally.
    • Reversed the display order of KB and MB in the Page File Graph, Physical Memory Graph, and Memory Pages/sec. Graph meters so that the MB reading will have priority when the meter is too small to display both MB and KB.
  • FreeMeter Professional:
    • New System File Cache meter. Shows memory currently in use by the file system cache.

Bug fixes:

  • FreeMeter & FreeMeter Professional:
    • Fixed bug which would sometimes cause FreeMeter to open on the wrong monitor on multiple monitor systems.
    • Fixed bug that would cause meters to sometimes lose their height setting when they were set to be higher than 100 pixels.
    • Improved the appearance of some dialogs when running under Simplified Chinese.

    • You can now initiate system hibernation mode, stand-by mode, logoff, restart, or shutdown from a FreeMeter system tray icon.
    • Meters set to display line graphs can now draw the line graphs 2 pixels wide instead of one.
    • File logging has been enabled for the Windows 95b/98/ME resource meter.

    • Fixed bug with default FreeMeter system tray icon being displayed all the time if the drive meter was off.
    • When the screen resolution changes, FreeMeter will reposition itself to stay on-screen.
  • FreeMeter Professional:
    • When using the "/pref" command line switch, the application would always re-ask for registration information.
    • Network meter would fail when used on a remote computer.
    • In previous versions, process meter lines would only get wider. Now they will shrink again if required to fit missing data.

v2.7.5(139) - January 19, 2003

New features:

  • FreeMeter & FreeMeter Professional:
    • Meters now continue to run while a folder usage dialog is displayed.

    • You can now have more than one folder usage window open from multiple volumes in the drive space meter.
    • [Windows NT4, 2000, XP only] There is now a memory pages per second graph. This graph indicates the rate at which pages are read from or written to disk to resolve hard page faults. This meter is a primary indicator of the kinds of faults that cause system-wide delays. If this meter shows a lot of activity when your computer is being slow, you may need more memory.
    • [Windows 2000, XP only] You can now make the main application window semi-transparent. See: "Preferences -> Application Options".
    • You can now display volume free space information on the external LCD display.

Bug fixes:

    • Better behavior of disk meter text when getting high transfer rates (text does not go outside meter window).
    • Meter order is maintained better when a new version of the application has a new type of meter.

Bug fixes:

  • FreeMeter & FreeMeter Professional:

    • The application would crash on launch if run on a system which had more than 8 IP addresses assigned to it. (129)
    • The bug fix introduced in 2.7.3 to fix a minor process meter problem when dismissing the Preferences dialog caused a bigger problem. The process meter would appear dead sometimes after editing preferences. The fix was removed. (129)

    • The text memory meters can now be drawn in a larger font if you want.

  • FreeMeter & FreeMeter Professional:
    • When a Windows 95/98/ME system wakes up from stand-by, meters should now continue to work. [thanks Robert B.]

Bug fixes:

  • Works better under the Italian version of Windows 2000. [thanks Luigi Calabrese]
  • Fixed a problem that prevented the network meter from working on the Windows XP beta. I'd like to go on the record and sate the the problem was due to an undocumented change in XP's version of "PdhEnumObjectItems", not a bug in FreeMeter. [thanks Chris Chen ]
  • I think I may have fixed the problem that would cause the CPU meter's system tray icon to freeze and no longer be updated.
  • Fix problem of registration information being written to wrong place in registry when using the "/pref" option.

v1.7.0 - November 4, 1999

New feature:

  • Support for disk and network meters under Windows 98/95.

v1.6.0 - October 16, 1999

  • Added two new usage meters:
    • Added a disk usage meter (Windows NT only). Displays the KB/sec read from and written to all your hard disk drives.
    • Added a customizable text based memory usage meter.
  • You can remove a meter by right-clicking on it.
  • You can change the display order of the various meters by right-clicking on them.

  • Double clicking the window title bar will now hide the window (just like right-clicking title bar and selecting "Hide" in previous versions). As before, double-click any FreeMeter tray icon to unhide (or right-click tray icon and select "Unhide"). [user suggestion: Mark Fiorucci]
  • The default FreeMeter tray icon will not appear if all drive tray icons are off and the CPU tray icon is on . [user suggestion: Johnny S. Olsson]

  • Added menu item to pop-up menus to take users to the FreeMeter web site.
  • Bug fixes.

v1.5.3 - September 22, 1999

  • Added option to make FreeMeter continue to query disk volumes that failed previously. In the past if FreeMeter failed to get information for a disk volume, it would disable that volume and not query it again until the user did a manual query. It worked this way because if the failed volume is a network volume on a server that can not be found, it can take a very long time to fail. If you had several of these volumes, it could cause FreeMeter to take minutes to fail all those volumes. But this isn't necessarily what you want to happen if say the failed volume is an empty ZIP drive. So now the user can choose.
  • Reduced color depth of image in about box. This reduced the size of the executable by about 100KB.

v1.5.2 - September 2, 1999
